Description: This design for 27 Cranberry Street is the first new single family house to be built since the designation of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District.
Situated on a quiet block in the north end of the Heights, the house sits between a row house pair and a free standing wood frame house. The new design mitigates the scale and massing of the two neighbors by setting back to align with the frame house, while a large projecting bay maintains the street wall of the brownstones. Two iterations of the design, the first in quarried brownstone and the second in custom Roman brick, were reviewed by the NYC Landmark Commission. Both designs were featured in a Brooklyn Historical Society exhibit of historic district new construction.
